not sure about the letters

Now, of course, after making them, i'm not sure about them. This top has hit the ugly stage. I usually don't do borders, unless they are pieced, but I am considering either more black or red.

Other Traditions?

This Amish quilt exploration has been making me wonder about other quilting traditions. I know about African American quilts and Pakistani quilts but can't really think of any more. Then there are traditional American quilts, the ones we all know about, but who else makes quilts? It could be pretty inspiring to work in some other styles, too. Of course I liberate everything I do becausev that's how I enjoy working..... Laura, Woo lywoman.

Letters

Woolywoman Laura here. I have been making letters and they are kicking my behind. Cannot seem to figure out the "A". Now if I could spell words with just a "C" an "O" and a "H" I would be getting somewhere. And the seams! I am more casual than almost anyone about how the back of my piece looks, but this is really something! How does everyone else manage?

Definetly Roman Stripes

Here is every solid in the stash, and some Marimekko black I have been hoarding. I cut one 2.5 inch strip from each color. I only repeated two colors- the blue chambray, because I am low on blues, and the magenta, because it was so juicy.
This is set number one. Muggles the Poodle seems to like it, but it is my least favorite.
Setting number two has promise, but I would need a lot more blocks and then the quilt would be bigger than I want. These are 12.5 inch blocks, btw.
Setting number three has a lot of promise. I like the crashing stripes.
Setting number four is my fave, so far. Had to go pick the kids up from school, so mama's sewing time is over for the day.

As for what do I call my space? The sewing cave. I share the kid's playroom. However, they have decided that they are too old to have a playroom, so they call it the basement. But it's not underground. No reasoning with them.

Settled on Roman Stripe

OK, I am decided: Roman stripe. Whether I will set it like plate 33 or 34 is the only question. ( I know, I started by thinking Log Cabin, but I am ALWAYS making a log cabin, so that didn't seem like a challenge. )

I am in excellent condition to sew tomorrow: Kids at school ( check!) House clean (ish) (Check!) lots of left overs available for dinner ( check!) and had to clean my sewing cave/ kids play room because we had people over. My sole obligations are to get the kids out the door, wash uniforms for work, and deliver a plate of cupcakes ( already baked, frosting made and ready) to the second grade.

cant decide on a setting..

So, this is the quilt I made the night after seeing the Amish Abstractions exhibit at the De Young. I was actually surprised at how many solids i owned, once i had pulled them from The Great Wall of Fabric. I've been playing with this on the Design Floor, and have been struggling with the setting. I now have 16 blocks, so i can put it 4 by 4. I also might put it in strea of lightening. Dunno. Glad to be part of the blog!
