It has more sparkle than what I have tried to do
here. This just looks dark and dull to me and has no zing. I'm moving on!

Oh, don't give up ... it's wonderful!!!
I love the colors and the layout. but hmm, I can see that it is a bit dark. If you're feeling adventurous you could try cutting it up and adding brighter colors to it, like Siobhan did with one of her old Amish tops. good luck!

Many times when putting together a quilt, I go through a phase where I feel disappointed in the direction it is taking or that it isn't as good as what I imagined. Live with it a bit, play with it a bit, and you may just fall in love with it all over again. Sometimes when I have a design challenge, I come up with my most creative ideas. Step back from it a bit and then come back later with fresh eyes.

I have the same trouble with photos - they always look darker than the actuality! The colours go together very well!
I found what I love about the quilts in the exhibit is the depth they are able to achieve using just the solids. Most of my attempts at Amish quilts are like yours - very little contrast. I think we have to work harder at it when using solids.
