Here we have the quilt at the moment;
and here we have option one for the letters;
(the family have given this one the thumbs down)
and option 2
which I prefer, but am still not sure.
DH says it's yuk, but he's a man so what does he know!
I don't think I want to hide the letters on the back, especially that pink "i".
Help!

I vote for option 2, Clare.
Have you also auditioned shorter letters? Or a narrower black border under the letters? I don't know if those things would help, but they are possibilities.
I love the angles in your blocks.
Two. I love how you're thinking of subtle letters that add interest to the border and yet let the center stand alone. but that blue seems too hard to read. you're doign all that work, you want it to stand out some! love the wonky!
never let husbands design quilts!
No. two with the pink letters ~ but with a narrower band of black between the pink border and the base of the letters.
What is it you're going to "say" ??
LOVE how this is evolving!
the pink reads so nice with the pink border... fun stuff!
How about black on pink?
Sorry - forgot to say the words are "S is for strings (or stripes)".
can you use some of each color? I LIke the words you chose.
I have to go with the pink too! I think it makes a lovely contrast and stands up for itself next to the vigour of the central panel. I am a bit tempted by the idea of multicolour words though ...?
Clare, I think having a big black border would really provide a lot of contrast and make the center stand out more. don't worry about the letters for a moment and audition a big black border and then a pink one and see what you think.
You could even insert your D.D.s initials!
