Freestyle letters from the past

                                sorry this is so difficult to see but if you enlarge it you can read it......
                               I thought it was worth sharing.  Its from a library book about the Shelburne collection of
                               quilts.

There is a quilt in the Shelbourne collection that is covered in letters embroidered and maybe appliqued in different fonts...really impressive!

that's a quilt? that is awesome. and letters like this are pretty easy to do free-pieced. I've seen a couple of quilts like this but of course can't think of where, off the top of my head.

I think there's one in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum here in NYC. It's just the words "TOBACCO SACKS" repeated 3 or 4 times across the quilt.I'll see if I can turn it up in my library.
