The Sara Miller Amish Quilt Collection

Last night when I went to my guild meeting, I had this challenge on my mind and picked up a couple books about Amish Quilting from the library, including Marston & Cunningham's Amish Quilting Patterns and Bettina Havig's Amish Kinder Komforts: Quilts from the Sara Miller Collection.

I found some great examples of liberated Amish quilts in the Bettina Havig book and wondered if they could be found anywhere online.  It turns out that her collection is now found at the International Quilt Study Center and yes, if you're interested, you can have a look, by going to their Collection Explorer, choosing the Search option and then selecting the Sara Miller Collection and then View Results button.

My favorites from this collection of Amish kinder quilts:

Log Cabin 2000.007.0022

Random Blue Bars 2000.007.0025 (a 2-color chinese coins variation)

Chinese Coins 2000.007.0042

Another Chinese Coins 2000.007.0084

Ocean Waves 2000.007.0068

Fans 2000.007.0062  (set as rings ... so, of course this caught my eye).

Their Collection Explorer app takes a little while to load, but once loaded, you can surf around the collections (or other search results) pretty quickly.

ugh, that is slow. but I love that first liberated log cabins example. The book Amish Quilts from the Midwest also features the Sara Miller Collection. love it. Some day would love to see these in person.
